Scratch Skulls (calavera) are a novel multicultural project which can be used to explore ‘The Day of the Dead’.
Dia De Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is on November 2nd. This Mexican holiday is celebrated throughout Mexico and in the United States, and it focuses on remembering and celebrating friends and family members who have passed away. Traditions include building private altars called ofrendas, honouring those who have passed using calavera, aztec marigolds, and the favourite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these as gifts.

To use these Scratch Skull shapes simply scratch into the black coating using the included wooden tools to reveal the colourful floral pattern underneath.
